It’s capable of generating 702 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque, picking up from 0 – 60 mph in 4.5 seconds. No, we’re not talking about a muscle car. We’re talking about the all-new 2021 RAM TRX. Based on horsepower, it’s the most powerful production street-legal half-ton pickup ever produced, but we’re pretty sure you’ll be spending most of your time off the street on rugged off-road trails, where the TRX was born to roam. As the newest and most anticipated addition to the RAM truck lineup, the TRX will be hitting the trails near Apex on September 8, 2020. Below, Hendrick Dodge Cary covers everything we know so far about the TRX for interested Carrboro off-road enthusiasts.

What’s in a Name?

After 10 years in the making, how did the RAM TRX come to be named as such? It’s short for T-Rex, and if you’re wondering whether that’s a nod to a popular off-road competitor named the Ford Raptor, you’re absolutely correct. Rest assured, those who choose to secure the keys to a RAM TRX this fall will have no problem outrunning Raptors (both of the Ford variety and the prehistoric variety) on North Carolina’s most rugged off-road trails.

RAM TRX Performance

The Supercharged 6.2L HEMI® V8 engine has been fitted into everything from Dodge performance cars to the Dodge Durango SUV, so it only makes sense to also pair it with the power of a RAM truck. With a high-performance air induction system, it’s built to filter out four times as much trail dirt and debris as the Ford Raptor and consume up to 32.9 liters of air per minute. Check out the performance specs of the TRX engine, right here:

  • 702 hp
  • 650 lb-ft of torque
  • 0 – 60 mph in 4.5 seconds
  • Maximum speed of 14,600 rpm

Built for the Trail

The 2021 RAM TRX is factory-built for the trail, so you can head straight from our dealership lot in Cary to a rugged adventure out where the only sound for miles is the roar of your engine. Here’s what we know so far about the TRX off-road features and specs:

  • 11.8-inch ground clearance
  • 13-inch front suspension travel
  • 14-inch rear suspension travel

If you haven’t sensed a theme for the TRX yet, it’s that it’s built to outperform every production truck competitor. This being the case, it should come as no surprise that it’s equipped with an all-new shock system: BILSTEIN® Black Hawk® E Shocks. They’re only found on the RAM TRX, using Dual-Valve Technology, High-Pressure Stainless Steel Braided Hoses, Remote Reservoirs, and ZoneControl® Jounce Cut Off to deliver superior body control whether on-road or off.
