Is RAM Dodge? Are They Still the Same?
So, is RAM Dodge? It used to be. Dodge named one of its early light-duty trucks the “RAM”. The company later incorporated the name “RAM” into the rest of its lineup of pickup trucks as well as certain vans and SUVs, like the Ramcharger SUV and Dodge RAM Van. However, the RAM pickup trucks you know and love today are no longer referred to as “Dodge RAM.” Why is that?
When Did Dodge and RAM Split Up?
So, when did Dodge and RAM split up? Dodge was eventually bought by Chrysler in 1981. The company continued to produce RAM pickups under the Dodge name until 2009. In that year, Chrysler split Dodge and RAM into two separate brands and two separate entities.
Dodge and RAM split up to enable RAM to focus on producing world-class trucks and for Dodge to compete with other auto manufacturers like Ford and Chevy. Dodge went on to focus on several popular models that our Carrboro customers are familiar with, like the Challenger and Charger sports cars and the Durango SUV.
Who Owns RAM?
Dodge and RAM are still in the same family of vehicles. They are both still owned by Chrysler, which is now named FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles). The company plans to change its name to Stellantis during the first quarter of 2021, once its merger with Peugeot S.A. is completed.
