2007 Dodge Viper
2007 Dodge Viper

Overview

Dodge extends the 2006 Viper into the 2007 model year. The buzz is that Dodge is not releasing a 2007 Dodge Viper so they can do a major redesign for the 2008 model. This high-performance two-seat sports car comes as a coupe or as a convertible with a manual folding fabric top and heated glass rear window.

The Dodge Viper SRT10 is a race-inspired, All-American sports car characterized by outrageous styling that delivers breathtaking performance. Using a traditional front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout with four-wheel independent suspension, the Viper SRT10 is powered by a 500-horsepower 8.3-liter V10 engine delivers estimated performance of zero to 60 mph in less than 4 seconds, and 60 mph to zero braking in less than 100 feet.

The Dodge Viper SRT10 convertible is joined by the Dodge Viper SRT10 Coupe. The Viper SRT10 Coupe debuted in Viper Blue with Stone White Stripes in contrast to the original Dodge Viper GTS Coupe that was blue with white stripes. The “Double Bubble” roof and bold rear styling with wraparound taillights are also reminiscent of the Viper GTS Coupe. The Viper SRT10 Convertible is available in Viper Red and Viper Black, and a “Blue Mamba” is offered with a special interior package that includes black leather upholstery with contrasting stitching and shift knob accents.

Engine and Performance

An 8.3-liter (505-cubic-inch) V10 engine sports heroic output numbers: 510 horsepower and 535 pound-feet of torque. The power is transferred to the fat rear tires via a Tremec six-speed manual transmission and a standard limited-slip differential. Its performance numbers are equally impressive, as the Viper is able to reach 60 mph in just 4 seconds and run the quarter-mile is 12 seconds flat

Walkaround

Dodge’s Vipers have always flexed their sleek muscular silhouettes flaunted their wild and untamed nature from the beginning, and the current version continues that theme.

Standard exterior features include body color front and rear bumpers, fixed hoop rollover protection, manual soft-top convertible roof, power body color door mirrors, front fog lights, bi-Xenon headlights, alloy & leather trim on gear knob, rear window with defogger, tinted glass, windshield wipers with variable intermittent wipe

The Viper SRT10 Convertible features a manual top, power windows and mirrors, interval wipers, a glass rear window, remote locking and an alarm system.

The Viper coupe comes with the same standard equipment in a feline, curvy coupe body with a steel top. Options for the coupe include red or black paint and a choice of two kinds of alloy wheels.

Comfort, Controls & Convenience

Standard features on the Dodge Viper includes 12v power outlet, air conditioning, element antenna, anti-theft protection, front ashtray; RDS audio/AM/FM, 6-disc Auto-changer; dashboard/floor console, courtesy lights, driver and passenger sports seat. It also comes with front seat belts with pre-tensioners, airbags, adjustable pedals, tire pressure indicator; remote power locks, power steering, remote trunk/hatch release, suede seat upholstery, tilt/leather covered steering wheel and ventilation with recirculation.

The Viper SRT10 Convertible comes with a manual top with a glass rear window, leather seating surfaces, power windows and mirrors, interval wipers, remote locking, an alarm system, and an AM/FM/CD sound system.

The Viper coupe comes with all the same standard equipment in a breathtakingly voluptuous coupe body with a steel top. At this time, the few options on the list include red or black paint and either of two alloy wheel options, to keep the manufacturing complexity as low as possible

Driving Impressions

The Viper is one of the fastest production cars in the world. Its 510-horsepower V10 pushes it to triple-digit speeds in the blink of an eye and it doesn't stop there. Massive rear tires make fast starts easier than you might think, although the shifter is a bit awkward so concentration is required to hit the gates just right. Pushing the Viper to the limit still requires the skill of a seasoned driver, but even rookie pilots will admire the car's unbelievable abilities. Ultra quick steering, racing-style seats and powerful Brembo brakes add to the racecar like feel. It's not comfortable enough to be used as an everyday driver, but for those who can afford to have it on the side; the Viper is a super car that answers to nothing.

Safety

Safety equipment doesn't go beyond the basics on the Viper. There are no side airbags, nor is there traction or stability control. Massive four-wheel antilock disc brakes assure rapid stops and a passenger-side airbag cutoff switch makes it feasible for small children to ride along in a pinch.
