2007 Dodge Durango
2007 Dodge Durango

Blend of style, performance, and safety

The 2007 Dodge Durango is a full-size, four-door sport utility vehicle from the house of DaimlerChrysler. It is available in 2-wheel drive (2WD) and 4-wheel drive (4WD) options in four trims – the SXT, SLT, Adventurer, and Limited.

The 2007 Durango model was reworked to boost sagging sales. It debuted at the Dallas Auto Show in April 2006 and included a redesigned front clip with a new fascia, grille, hood, headlamps, fenders, and wheels. It also received some new features such as the Electronic Stability Program (ESP), tire pressure monitoring system, rear park assist, and a one-touch turn signal. The 2007 Durango is also endowed with a redesigned floor and second-row seats. It is built on a hydroformed box-section frame that adds to its stiffness, thereby improving its towing capability.

The Durango comes with a three-year or 36,000 miles bumper-to-bumper and free roadside assistance warranty.

Option of four high-performance engines

The 2007 Durango is available in four trims – the SXT, SLT, Adventurer and Limited, and offers four engine options.

The 3.7-liter Magnum V6 engine delivers 210 hp and 235 lb-ft of torque. The 4.7-liter Magnum V8 engine produces 230 hp @ 1,500 rpm and 290 lb-ft of torque. The 4.7-liter V8 Magnum Flexible Fuel Vehicle Engine generates 230 hp @ 4,600 rpm and 290 lb-ft of torque. Magnum is a registered trademark of DaimlerChrysler Corporation.

The 5.7-liter HEMI Multi Displacement engine generates 330 hp. Multi-displacement System (MDS) flawlessly changes to four-cylinder mode when less power is required and offers up to 20-percent improved fuel economy.

All the trims are available with the option of a 4-speed or a 5-speed automatic transmission (AT). The 5-speed transmission is fuel efficient and responsive. Its fifth, overdrive gear reduces noise as well as fuel consumption. It also features an alternate second gear for smooth downshifting at high speeds.

With the 4-speed AT, the Durango can cover 16 miles and 21 miles for one gallon of fuel in city and highway respectively. Fuel economy with the 5-speed AT touches 14 and 18 miles per gallon for city and highway respectively.

Exhilarating exteriors

The redesigned 2007 Dodge Durango blends style, excellent performance, utility, versatility, and safety. It is tough, muscular, and distinctively styled.

The SXT comes with Deep Gray front and rear fascias. The SLT comes with body-color front and rear fascia. The Adventure is available with Mineral Gray Metallic front and rear fascia, and the Limited comes with chrome insert front and body-color rear fascia.

Rectangular, jewel-like dual halogen bulb headlamps, which wrap around the corners and a Dodge signature crosshair grille adorns the front fascia of all Durango trims. The SLT and Adventure have the option of automatic headlights, which come as a standard for the Limited. All trims, except for the SXT, feature standard fog lamps integrated with the front fascia. A redesigned hood featuring muscular lines dominates the front-end design.

All Durango trims stand on a wheelbase of 119.20 inches and measure 200.8 inches in length. With a ground clearance of 8.70 inches, they can be driven on bumpy roads without the risk of their floor being hit with the road surface. A turning radius of 19.95 feet enables the Durango to take sharp turns on narrow roads.

The SXT comes fitted with 17-inch styled steel wheels as a standard. However, 17-inch painted cast aluminum wheels are optional for it. The SLT stands on standard 18-inch cast aluminum wheels while the Adventurer is available with standard 17-inch machined-face cast aluminum wheels. The Limited comes standard with 18-inch chrome-clad cast aluminum wheels. The SLT G and Limited are also offered with an optional 20-inch chrome-clad cast aluminum wheels.

The SXT rolls on 245/70R17 tires, Adventure on 265/65R17 tires, and the SLT and Limited on 265/60R18 tires.

You can choose your favorite Durango trim from a host of available colors such as Brilliant Black Crystal Pearl, Bright White, Light Khaki Metallic, Mineral Gray Metallic, Inferno Red Crystal Pearl, Steel Blue Metallic, Marine Blue Pearl, and Bright Silver Metallic.

Comfort personified

The interiors of all Durango trims are incredibly spacious, comfortable, and flexible. All Durango trims offer comfortable seating for up to eight passengers.

The SXT, SLT, and the Adventurer come standard with low-back cloth bucket seats while the Limited is available with low-back premium leather-trimmed bucket seats. The SLT and the Adventurer have the option of low-back bucket seats with leather seat inserts in the first and the second rows only. They also come with optional leather-wrapped steering wheel.

The SLT and the Adventurer feature an 8-way power driver’s seat while the Limited is advantaged by an 8-way power driver’s seat with memory and a 4-way power seat for the front-passenger as a standard. The Limited also comes standard with heated front bucket seats while they are optional for the SLT as well as the Adventure.

The SXT, SLT, and Adventure feature 40/20/40 Fold-and-Tumble seats in the second row with the exception of leather-trimmed seats. The Limited, however, gets the benefit of 40/20/40 Fold-and-Tumble reclining seats in the second row.

In the SLT and Adventure, the third row bench folds flat into rear cargo area to make a lot of extra space. This feature comes as optional on the SXT. The Limited draws the advantage of a 60/40 split third row bench that folds flat into the rear cargo area with one-hand operation. It is available as optional for the SLT and Adventure.

The Durango comes with a 102.4-cubic feet of cargo volume and can handle up to 1,750 pounds of payload. The optional HEMI® V8 engine comes with 8,950 pounds of towing capability, the best-in-class. The 3.7-liter V8 can tow up to 3,800 pounds while the 4.7-liter Magnum® V8 offers 6,050 pounds of towing capacity.

All the trims are available with power widows and an effective air-conditioning system. But the Limited, with its dual-zone automatic temperature control, maintains its edge over the SXT, SLT, and the Adventurer.

The Limited and the SLT G come standard with an overhead console comprising of a HomeLink® Universal Transceiver and Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC).

The Limited boasts of a memory system that automatically recalls preset positions for driver’s seat and exterior mirror, radio, temperature controls, and power adjustable pedals. It also comes standard with a rearview auto-dimming interior mirror and a rear power lift-gate, which are available as part of a package with the SLT and the Adventurer. The power lift-gate opens with the touch of a button to make for easy loading and unloading of cargo.

The SLT G and the Limited get the advantage of steering wheel-mounted audio controls as a standard. This feature is available with the SLT E and the Adventurer as part of a package.

All the four trims feature a 27-gallon fuel tank that will take care of your fuel requirements for a decent time/distance.

To take care of your entertainment needs, the Durango SXT and SLT E comes standard with AM/FM radio with single-disc CD-player and auxiliary jack while the SLT G, Adventurer and the Limited feature an AM/FM radio with integrated 6-disc CD changer and MP3 capability as well as SIRIUS satellite radio, available as optional for the SXT and the SLT E. The Limited also comes with optional AM/FM radio with Satellite Navigation Global Positioning System. The SLT, Adventurer and the Limited also come with an optional rear seat video system. The DVD system includes headliner-mounted 7-inch screen, remote control, two wireless headsets, and face-plate audio and video input jacks.

Thrilling but under-control

The SXT, SLT, Adventurer, as well as Limited are available with a power-assisted, tilt-adjustable rack and pinion steering wheel.

All Durango trims ride on a coil-spring solid axle rear suspension with a Watt’s linkage to control lateral motion and a torsion bar independent front suspension to ensure a smooth ride. The Durango's rear suspension ensures a smooth ride with superior cargo and towing capability. The Watt linkage system lessens the risk of the rear-end slipping over rough terrains. This results in a level ride.

The steering and suspension are adjusted in such a way that they deliver a refined and quiet ride with precise steering. All the trims come equipped with disc brakes in the front as well as rear. Four-wheel disc anti-lock brakes offer additional stopping power and security in all the trims.

It’s a ‘Five-star’

The 2007 Dodge Durango has been awarded a five-star safety rating for driver and front-passenger safety in frontal crash tests by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of the U.S. Department of Transportation.

All Durango trims come packed with a number of safety features such as advanced multi-stage driver and front-passenger airbags, supplemental side-curtain with roll-sensing technology for outboard occupants in all seating rows, anti-theft engine immobilizer with two encoded keys, and electronic stability program (ESP). The ESP includes Brake Assist, all-speed traction control, Electronic Roll Mitigation (ERM) and Trailer Sway Control (TSC). ESP offers oversteer and understeer control to the driver and helps in maintaining directional stability of the vehicle.

The Limited comes standard with ParkSense rear park assist system, which is available as part of the Power Convenience Group for the SLT and the Adventure. The SLT G and the Limited also feature a standard security alarm. The SLT, Adventure, and Limited are also available with tire pressure monitoring warning lamp as a standard.

This package comes standard with the SLT G and Limited trims but is optional on the SLT E and Adventurer.
