The beginning

The 2007 Dodge Caravan is the fourth-generation Caravan. Manufactured by DaimlerChrysler, it is the bestselling minivan of the US. It gained recognition soon after its launch in 1983 and popularized the term “minivan” in the country.

The first-generation Caravan was a three-door minivan and built around the Chrysler S platform. It contended with the Chrysler Town & Country, and Plymouth Voyager. The second and the third-generation Caravans were launched in 1991 and 1996 respectively. The second generation Caravan was a 3-door minivan built on the Chrysler AS platform while the third-generation Caravan was an optional 3-door or 4-door minivan designed around the Chrysler NS platform.

The latest fourth-generation Caravan is available in standard as well as extended versions; two trims for each version. It is available as the Caravan SE, Caravan SXT, Grand Caravan SE, and Grand Caravan SXT. The Caravan SE and SXT have a wheelbase of 113.3 inches while that of the Grand Caravan measures 119.3 inches. Both the models can seat seven passengers. Built on the Chrysler RS platform, the 2007 Dodge Caravan competes with the Chrysler Town & Country, the Chrysler Voyager, and the Chrysler Pacifica.

All four trims come with a warranty for three years or 60,000 kms.

The Caravan SE comes fitted with a 2.4L 4-cylinder engine that produces 150 hp. The Caravan SXT and the Grand Caravan SE derive power from a 3.3L V6 engine that generates 170 hp and 200 lb-ft of torque while the Grand Caravan SXT is powered by a robust 3.8-liter V6 engine that delivers 200 hp and 235 lb-ft of torque.

Coupled to a smooth four-speed automatic transmission, all the trims have disc brakes in the front and drum brakes in the rear which provide superb stopping power. The Grand Caravan SE and SXT also have the advantage of 4-wheel antilock with vented front and solid rear discs while the Caravan SXT comes with an optional 4-wheel antilock with vented front disc and rear drums.

The Caravan and the Grand Caravan look intimidating with their broad stance and sharp yet smooth lines. The fascia of all the trims looks impressive with well-balanced bumpers, U-shaped crosshair grille, and complex surface lens halogen bulb headlights. All the four trims of the Caravan are also bestowed with a stylish roof and beltline that controls wind noise so that you can enjoy your ride in peace. As for the minivan’s rear, steeply inclined rear window, an impressive rear bumper, a distinct spoiler and huge wrap-around taillights give it a sporty look.

The Caravan SE and the Grand Caravan SE and SXT come with fixed rear window with defogger while it is optional for the Caravan SE. Both, the Caravan and the Grand Caravan, are available in Stone White, Magnesium Pearl, Modern Blue Pearl, Bright Silver Metallic, Inferno Red Crystal Pearl, Linen Gold Metallic Pearl, Brilliant Black Crystal Pearl and Marine Blue Pearl colors.

A unique blend of convenience, versatility, and storage, the Caravan offers the maximum comfort to its passengers.

The interiors of all the four trims are roomy and look cozy. The Caravan SE and SXT come with easy-out roller seats. The Grand Caravan SXT, with Stow ‘n Go® second row bucket seats and 60/40 split third-row seats, provides expandable seating/storage space to passengers. However, these seats are optional for the Grand Caravan SE. With Stow ‘n Go®, the second and the third row seats can be folded flat, leaving a lot of additional space. Moreover, you can take shelter from the sun or rain under the Grand Caravan’s lift-gate.

The Grand Caravan SXT is available with an option of leather interiors. The Caravan SE and Grand Caravan SE come standard with dual sliding doors while the Grand Caravan SXT comes with dual power sliding doors and an optional power lift-gate. These sliding doors come in handy while getting in and out of the vehicle, especially when your hands are full. The Grand Caravan SXT also comes with the option of a power sunroof so that you can enjoy the sun on your drives.

Some interior features common across all the trims include power steering, air-conditioning, fixed mast antenna, automatic driver indicator on the dashboard, and seat storage under the passenger seat. The Caravan SXT and the Grand Caravan SXT have a standard AM/FM stereo with cassette/CD player to make your rides enjoyable. Front seat cup holders in all the trims will ensure you can enjoy your drinks without worrying about spilling them over while light in the cargo area helps you to see clearly even in dark.

For entertainment-on-the-go, all the trims of the Caravan come with ample options. The Caravan SE, SXT and the Grand Caravan SE are available with optional AM/FM radio with CD/DVD video audio player with MP3 capability, six speakers and video remote control, and Sirius satellite radio. The Grand Caravan SXT also comes with optional rear seat video system and Sirius satellite radio.

All the four trims ride smoothly on an independent front suspension and semi-independent rear suspension. They come with standard front-wheel drive that offers superb traction and keeps the wheels glued to the road. All the four trims are driven by power steering. The Caravan SXT, Grand Caravan SE and SXT come standard with steering wheel mounted controls for speed control while it comes as part of a package for the Caravan SE.

For convenience of the driver, the Grand Caravan SXT comes with Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) as part of a package.

The instruments are easy-to-read; all trims have analog gauges providing all the relevant information. Indicators for turn signals are placed above the instrument panel, from where they can be easily seen. The dashboard is positioned a little forward to ensure better visibility.

The Grand Caravan SXT also has an option of load leveling suspension that detects variations in height level and automatically adjusts the vehicle to it for an even ride. It also improves the vehicle control while carrying a heavy load.

The long-wheelbase Grand Caravan boasts of a five-star rating for front and side impact crash tests, courtesy its safety cage construction that includes steel side-guard door beams.

All the trims come with optional air bags and power adjustable pedals. Security alarm and ParkSense rear park assist system come as part of the Premium Group package for the Grand Caravan SXT. The Caravan SXT and the Grand Caravan SE and SXT feature an engine immobilizer while it comes as part of package for the Caravan SE. The Grand Caravan SXT also features an optional tire pressure monitoring display. The Caravan SXT and the Grand Caravan SXT also come with an optional UConnect hands-free communication system.

The Caravan SXT and the Grand Caravan SE and SXT are available with remote keyless entry and powerful headlamps with auto-off time delay while they are optional for the Caravan SE. The Grand Caravan comes standard with anti-lock brakes while they are optional for the Caravan SXT.
